About Reflexology

Reflexology is a non-intrusive holistic complementary therapy which is based on the theory that the different organs & systems of the body can be mapped to different points or areas on the feet, hands, face, lower legs or ears. Reflexologists believe that through working these points or areas, they may have an energetic effect on the corresponding organs or systems within the body, encouraging the body towards a state of homeostasis and self-healing (AOR).

Forms of Reflexology have been used for wellbeing purposes for centuries – the oldest evidence documenting a treatment given to feet is from an Egyptian papyrus dated 2,500BC as well as the tomb of the physician, Ankhmahor. Ayurvedic medicine practices a form of pressure technique on the feet as part of their system of ‘marma’ points. Chinese acupuncture uses many points on the feet as well as the hands.
